Rule for Compensation
  1. To ensure interests of readers and maintain the completeness of books, the library set up the rules.
  2. Borrowers shall compensate according to the rules if any stain, damage or loss of borrowed books occurs.
  3. Borrowers shall compensate according to the rules if any following condition of books occurs:
    (1) Circling highlights (2) Notes (3) Stains (4) Folds
  4. Books shall be deemed lost if any following condition of books occurs:
    (1) Claim of loss by borrowers
    (2) Being overdue for 2 months by borrowers
    (3) Tearing
    (4) Missing pages
  5. Borrowers shall be informed of the compensation depending on the level of stains and damage determined by the library in any condition of Article 3; borrowers shall be held responsible for compensation if one of the conditions mentioned in Article 4 occurs.
  6. Rules of compensation are as follows:

(1)Compensators should purchase the original version or the new one if applicable, or pay at the circulation desk 3 times the price of the original version purchased.

(2)Compensators should pay at the circulation desk 6times the price of the original version purchased if the original version is out of print.

(3)If no search of prices is available for books or audio-visual materials lost and out of print books in Chinese should be priced at NTD2,000, books in foreign languages should be priced at NTD3,000, audio-visual materials in Chinese should be priced at NTD5,000, and other audio-visual materials should be priced at NTD8,000

(4)Given lost books or audio-visual materials are part of sets, Compensators should pay at the price of entire sets if no single purchase is available; if the single purchase is available, compensators should pay 3 times the price of the single purchase; if lost books or audio-visual materials are out of print, compensators should pay based on the corresponding rule accordingly.
(5)Compensators should complete the compensation within one month after the receipt of the notice from the library. Otherwise, the amount would be deducted from the salary of the faculty by the treasury while receiving the notice from the library if compensators are the faculty of the school; if compensators are students, the library should ask their parents or guarantors for compensation, and send cases to Office of Student Affair.

(6)Before the use, please read instructions of the operation of devices or ask librarians for help. Users should be held responsible for compensation if any stain, damage or loss occurs.

(7)Please voluntarily check whether the devices are scratched or damaged before using borrowed audio-visual media. If any damage is found, users should notify the librarian and register the malfunction. The last user using the media should be held responsible for compensation if any scratch or damage of the media is found by librarians when it is returned.

  1. NCTU Alumni Association shall be responsible for the pursuit of compensation as well as compensation if an alumni member losses books or audio-visual materials.
  2. The regulation and the revision are announced for implementation after being passed by Executive Council
